Education Relations Commission
What is the Education Relations Commission?
The Ontario Labour Relations Board/the Ministry of Labour is responsible for providing administrative support services to the Commission as set out in in the Letter of Agreement among the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labour and the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
- The Education Relations Commission continues today only to provide advice to the Lieutenant Governor in Council as to whether the continuation of a strike by school board employees or of a lock-out of school board employees will, in the opinion of the Commission, place in jeopardy the successful completion of courses of study by the affected pupils. - Generally speaking, the Commission will provide such advice when requested to do so by the Minister of Education on behalf of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
- As the Commission is purely an advisory (not adjudicative) entity, the Commission will consult those it considers appropriate: generally including at least those parties to the relevant collective bargaining.
- After such consultation and deliberation as the Commission considers appropriate, the Commission will provide its advice to the Minister of Education as expeditiously as possible. As the advice is confidential, it is the decision of the Minister, whether, and in what form, to make that advice public.
